About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced, service-oriented IT Support Specialist to provide hands-on technical support to employees and serve as a key onsite resource for day-to-day IT operations at JT Wimsatt Contracting Company. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of professional IT helpdesk and support experience, strong Windows and Microsoft 365 skills, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a highly organized, process-oriented approach. This role requires someone who takes ownership of issues, communicates well with users, documents their work, and knows when to resolve an issue independently versus escalate it to our managed IT service provider.
The IT Support Specialist will also help train and mentor IT interns, providing guidance on troubleshooting, equipment deployment, documentation, security practices, and day-to-day IT procedures.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide onsite support for Windows, Microsoft 365, Teams, applications, printers, peripherals, laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and connectivity issues.
  • Troubleshoot problems thoroughly, resolve routine issues independently, and escalate complex issues with clear documentation and troubleshooting details.
  • Prepare, configure, deploy, replace, and recover computers and other IT equipment.
  • Support employee onboarding, offboarding, transfers, and equipment changes.
  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory, IT documentation, tickets, and equipment records.
  • Assist with user accounts, permissions, Microsoft Entra ID/Active Directory, MFA, and other routine administrative tasks.
  • Maintain organized IT equipment, supplies, and storage areas.
  • Create and improve IT procedures, checklists, and documentation for recurring activities.
  • Follow established security, access-control, ticketing, approval, and change-management processes.
  • Work closely with our managed IT provider on infrastructure, network, server, security, and other advanced technical issues.
  • Provide clear communication and status updates to employees and external IT support.
  • Train and mentor IT interns or less-experienced personnel on technical procedures, troubleshooting, documentation, and IT best practices.
  • Identify recurring problems and recommend improvements that make IT support more efficient and reliable.

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of professional IT support experience.
  • Associate degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience supporting Windows desktop environments and Microsoft 365.
  • IT experience in construction company a plus
  • Strong hardware, software, and network troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, MFA, and basic networking concepts.
  • Experience with IT ticketing systems and asset management.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Experience creating or following technical procedures and checklists.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to interns or junior IT personnel.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple requests, and take ownership through resolution.
  • Good judgment regarding when to troubleshoot, when to seek assistance, and when to escalate.
  • Professional, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Reliable, predictable attendance is an essential function of this onsite position.

What Success Looks Like:

The successful candidate is someone who fixes problems, not just tickets. You troubleshoot before escalating, document what you find, improve processes, keep equipment and information organized, and communicate when something is delayed or requires assistance.You also recognize recurring problems, help turn them into repeatable processes, and take pride in helping interns and less-experienced team members develop good technical and organizational habits.
